Thankful Thursday

rebecca in thanksgiving

Today is everything a fall day should be—crisp in the morning and sunny and warm in the afternoon. The leaves have turned, mostly, and it’s all glorious. This is the shortest season for us, so we don’t get too many perfect fall days. That means that when we have one or more of them (we’re on our third in a row now), we need to take time then and there to thank God for providing it for us. So here it is: I’m thankful for this rare jewel of a day.

I’m thankful because the sunny weather makes life without a clothes dryer easier to take. (The new one arrives on Saturday…or so they say.)

I’m thankful because the good weather has given me time to finish up some of the outdoor painting jobs I didn’t manage to fit in during the busy summer.

I’m thankful for the potatoes and carrots and cabbage from the garden.

I’m thankful for the cheap but tasty apples I used to make the jars of applesauce boiling in the boiling water bath as I write. (It has four more minutes on the timer, I’m told.)

There’s something about fall that makes me notice God’s every day provisions for his creatures. It’s a good season for thanksgiving.

On Thursdays throughout this year, I plan to post a few thoughts of thanksgiving along with Kim at the Upward Call and others. Why don’t you participate by posting your thanksgiving each week, too? It’ll be an encouragement to you and to others, I promise.
