Thankful Thursday

This week I’ve been thankful for

  • my new grandson, Ezra. I’m thankful for the rest of my grandchildren, too, and their very tender little hearts.

  • warmer winter weather, good for tobogganing, and for yesterday’s successful toboganning adventure with the three older grandchildren.

  • full cupboards and a cleanish house, and the energy for today’s hard work.

  • the opportunity to sing in my church choir. That’s a rare thing, these days.

Also thankful today:

Thankful Thursday

Here are a few things I’m thankful for this evening.

  • safe travels, for my son, who is on a road trip right now, and for the rest of the family as we drive around daily taking care of our business.

  • house plants and candles bringing life to my home in the dead of winter.

  • strength and energy to help care for my grandchildren and keep up with my other duties.

  • advent season and the opportunity to reflect on the Son’s first coming. And while I’m thinking of it, for the promise that the Son will come again—his second advent.

Thankful Thursday

I thought about skipping the Thankful Thursday post today, but how could I? It’s American Thanksgiving Day! Here are a few things I’m thankful for right now.

  • my furnace, a full tank of furnace oil, and the resources to pay for this morning’s oil delivery.

  • my daughter-in-law, who is a week away from delivering my fourth grandchild, but who still has the energy and patience to care for her two other children—my grandchildren—who are three and 21 months.

  • fresh raspberries and blackberries on special in the supermarket. When I was a child, the fresh fruit section in the grocery store had just apples, bananas, and maybe oranges in late November.

  • God’s preservation of his own, assuring me that although my faith waxes and wanes, God will keep me by his power “for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:5).
